type='text'>hey man, wanna get some food?

I went to a show last nite. (Defiance, Ohio) great band, great show. it reminded me why i like punk rock (or at least the punk rock attitude) punk rock is about community and family and love and coming together. it's pretty awesome when a hundred or so kids are all singing along in unison. it's commonly misconceived (oe so i believe) that punk rock is all about being an individual and fighting against some sort of system (the man) i call bullcrap. it's about being okay with yourself and being cool with people who are different than you. last nite i was thousands of miles from home and all my friends but i still managed to have some awesome conversations with some great people. it was kinda awesome.

today i went to the beach and got some awesome beach stuffs. pieces of drift wood and some incredibly smooth stones. they're way cool and i like to think they've been around a lot longer than i have. floating around in the ocean, getting pushed around by waves. it made me feel kinda small in a good way.

this weekend was great. it made me think about some things. it made me a little more hopeful.
today

So today at church Bishop Miller gave a stellar talk. He was kinda all over the place, but one thing he spoke about really stuck out to me. Especially with all the things in my life that have recently come to light.

1. Never forget you are a child of God and He loves you. (Romans 8:16-18,28,35,38-39)
2. God knows what's happening in your life. (Moses 7:24-41)
3. The Atonement helps in all aspects of your life. (Alma 7:11-13)
4. One day this will all make sense to you. As always, it was awesome. A member of the temple presidency spoke to us. He mentioned 3 things that happen in the temple. 1) We receive instruction. 2) We make covenants. 3) We receive revelation. He said that most of the time when we receive answers to our prayers the answer is "I LOVE YOU. I CARE ABOUT YOU. YOU CAN DO THIS. I AM WITH YOU." I think that's pretty true. Because most of the time that's all we need to keep going. Most things in life aren't that bad. We make them bigger and worse than they really are. I feel like that answer helps us focus on the eternal perspective. It's so simple, but it does so much.
Why I have been in a strange mood as of late.

I was supposed to go to the temple today, but was unable due to some circumstances beyond my control. I'm kinda bummed about it. I'm at a point in my life where I need to make things happen. I need to find a direction and go with it. I can't wait for things to come my way. I was looking forward to conversing with the Lord in His Holy Temple to find that direction, to understand why I feel certain things (or why I can't stop feeling other things), to make sense of my situation. I feel that I took a huge step into the dark a few months ago, but I found more light once I exhibited the faith and took the step. Now I wonder what the next step is. Where do I need to go and what do I need to do to find even more light? I sat in the waiting room while we tried to figure out the situation, pondering the things that have been weighing on my heart, but it wasn't the same as sitting in the Celestial Room. There were too many distractions, too many people. Maybe I received all the answers I need for the time being a few weeks ago in Oakland. I have faith that the guidance I received from the Lord then is still relevant now, and I plan on following those promptings. I am scared to take this next step. More scared than leaving my family, friends, home, and country for two years to preach the gospel. More scared than the inevitability that I will go to war. Only one thing scares me more, the thought of not following the direction the Lord has given me. I know that He loves me and guides me. I know that He will lead me to true happiness. It's a scary thing not to understand how it's all going to play out. The words of my patriarchal blessing have been running through my head recently. They are of great comfort to me. They remind me that the Lord is aware of my needs and desires, that He will bless me more than I deserve, that the gospel is simple and beautiful. That blessing is full of vague promises, thus affording me the opportunity to exercise my faith. Something I have struggled with for as long as I can remember. I don't need to understand the “why,” but I do need to follow the promptings that I receive. As I work to make things happen in my life, I pray that I will have the faith to take steps into the darkness to find more and more of the light I seek. Perhaps I didn't need to go to the temple afterall to figure these things out. My heart is still full and there are many things weighing it down, but I take comfort in the fact that the Lord has felt my heartache and is by my side through whatever trials I may face. I take great comfort in knowing that the Atonement is real. Now may be the time I need it most. And believe me when I say that I have needed it pretty bad in the past.

another set of words

the same voice

two bodies hanging above
dancing waters
its dances celebrations of lives
paralleled forever
each inhale a miracle
each exhale a step
closer to perfection
to change or stay the same
one i will do
the other you
a voice cries out
a voice quietly whispers
sink into the sea
cool this troubled mind
breaths held
time moves faster faster quieter quieter
silence stillness perfected
one answer for all
to follow
all answers for one
to follow
i believe the path is paved
in gold
who will walk with me into space and the sea

I Played Two Shows Last Night

So, I'm home for Christmas, which is awesome. After not having played bass for almost 6 months, the old band got together without practicing and we played 5-6 of our old songs. Go go muscle memory. It went surprisingly well. I'm more excited about the first (and probably last) Science + Skeleton show that went down. Damien + Zeke helped out with some added synths and drums. The whole thing was a hot mess, but it was fun. So here's the audio from last night's show. Someone had a video camera for part of the show so I'll try to hunt that down and post it here as well.

There We Were On The Floor And Sitting In A Chair And Standing On Our Feet As People Walked Away

Two Posts Today

Here's an awesome video of Bon Iver performing my favorite Bon Iver song, "Skinny Love," on Letterman.

Skinny Love
Come on skinny love just last the year
Pour a little salt we were never here
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer
I tell my love to wreck it all
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Right in the moment this order's tall
I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
I told you to be balanced
I told you to be kind
In the morning I'll be with you
But it will be a different "kind"
I'll be holding all the tickets
And you'll be owning all the fines
Come on skinny love what happened here
Suckle on the hope in lite brassiere
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Sullen load is full; It's about hugging. You should all listen to it and think about hugging your favorite person in the world. I promise it'll make you feel better. I won't bore you with details even though that's what most people do with blogs, but whatever, I'm not most people. I wanna do things and nothing all at the same time. My brain is in overdrive right now. I can't concentrate on one thing for very long. my sentences are short and simple. Explosions in the Sky would be a good band for me to listen to right now. Now I am listening to them. I want answers to questions I've had for a long, long, long, long time. I think I may get some soon. I'll keep praying for them to come. Someone compared my tattoos to the plan of salvation at dinner tonight. I'll tell you about it later Madre. It was kinda funny. I ran about 6.5 miles today and worked out my legs. They're like jello. or nonexistent. I started working with my friend Hunter on some new music. He sent me a bunch of recordings and is letting me cut them up into tiny pieces and glue them back together again. He's pretty freakin' awesome. He should probably be your hero like he is mine. I really need a hug. A good, long hug from someone I love very, very much. 16 more days and that can happen. I am very impatient. Grrrrrr. I am a tiger or a bear. The weather needs to warm up here and the sun needs to come out a little more during the day. I like the poem I wrote. I think it's nice and it makes sense to me somehow. Holy crap there's so much going on it seems, but nothing is really happening when I stop to think about it. What is going on!? It's a bit more focused (as focused as noise can get i think without losing that label.) It's really laid back stuff and I'm finding myself paying a lot more attention to the way things come together. I still let "magic" happen and it's mostly improvised, but still, I'm a bit more picky in what I'll let slide is what I guess I'm trying to say. The song I wrote today is called "From the Other Side of the Canyon to the Underside of the Stormy Seas and Back Again, Part IV" As soon as I get some more stuff recorded I'll post them up here for you to download and share with your friends. The next set of recordings is gonna be more of a full-length than an EP. I'll call it I Only Want One Thing, But the Wind Keeps Blowing it Away. You can see the cover above. I'm gonna take my time with this one, so I wouldn't expect anything soon. I promise it'll be worth the wait. Heck, the Madre may even like this one. Thanks for reading. Luckily, it was covered by my insurance and I am the proud owner of a 160gb ipod. That's 100 more gb than my old one. So thanks to that tool and G- Dub's tax rebate i have more room for more great (or not so great) music.

I started running recently. Usually when I try this running deal I quit after the second day, but this time I stuck it out and it's awesome. Feels kinda good to do something other than sit.

I need to start writing things (poems, songs, whatever) again. I've gotten out of the habit and I'm starting to feel the itch again.

Go listen to Mirah. She's amazing. And on top of that Phil Elverum (Microphones/Mt. Eerie) helps her out, so you know it's gotta be good.
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=198363491
http://krecs.com/html/artists/artistbio.php?interest=25

This blog has made absolutely no sense at all and I don't care because I'm pretty sure nobody reads it. So I'll just say this - This album is perfect.

Favorite Songs
1 - The Glow, Pt. 2
2 - The Moon
3 - Instrumental/The Mansion
4 - You'll Be In the Air
5 - I Felt Your Shape

The reissue of this album also comes with a bonus disc with 20 more tracks. These include alternate versions of the original tracks (or "destroyed versions" as they are labeled clearly on disc 2) and some new songs. Most of the destroyed versions are exactly that. The new songs, however, are amazing. Though, to be fair, I haven't listened to all of the bonus material carefully.

Awesome Bonus Material
1 - I'm Like You Tree
2 - Where Lies My Tarp?
3 - Map/Moon(version)

You can find out more here: http://www.pwelverumandsun.com/

Here's a solid review of this album from the folks at Pitchfork Media. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/49606-the-glow-pt-2

Anacortes, Washington

I recently decided I want out of Atlanta. and Georgia. and the South. and the East Coast. So that leaves me with the Pacific Northwest. (The Midwest and California shouldn't even exist, so to me they don't.) So that leaves Oregon and Washington. I've never been to either one, so they're pretty much the same as far as I'm concerned. So yeah, I decided to move. Now to pick a place.

A few months ago a friend introduced me to The Microphones, the musical project of Phil Elverum. In 2001 he released The Glow, Pt. 2 . I listened to this album nonstop for 2 months. I took a break from it for a few weeks and now I'm listening to it nonstop again. (I won't tell you why this album is amazing just yet. It's being reissued on K Records on Tuesday, so I'll save my review till I can get my hands on it and listen to the 20 bonus tracks.) Simply put, this album takes you to another place, and that place just so happens to be Anacortes.

I mean look at this place. It's beautiful. At the moment this is my number one choice. Portland, Seattle and Olympia are also in the running. I've lived within 30 minutes of Atlanta my entire life (with the exception of two years in Mexico City.) So I'm not entirely sure I'm cut out for small town living. But, if I am, Anacortes is where I'll be.

There are a lot of reasons I want to leave Atlanta. I'm not really willing to put them on this blog for the whole world to see("the whole world" should be read - "friends who are gonna be pissed that I'm leaving.") I just need a new start, and I don't want to have to tell anyone why.
